THE COLORADO TRAIL
Why I Hike: Searching for Physical & Emotional Equilibrium
“The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation”
– Henry David Thoreau.
As one of Thoreau’s most famous quotes for following your passion and achieving a life that avoids the ordinariness of playing it safe and turns it into a life of extraordinary success, this hiking adventure taught me how nature and time spent in the great outdoors can lead to you a successful and fulfilling life. Success is not defined by material things (like money or job status), but rather “if the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal,—that is your success.” (Thoreau)
As a way to avoid the life of “quiet desperation”, I made a purposeful decision to hike the 500 miles of the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango with my dog, Remy and captured each segment on video. The videos will walk you through my journey of hiking and making choices that allowed me to take on this physical and emotional challenge.
